Latest Bird Flu Report from Viet Nam

VIET NAM - The Vietnamese veterinary authority has reported nine outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

In their latest report dated 30 September, the authority has reported nine outbreaks of HPAI in poultry caused by the H5N1 virus. The majority of the outbreaks occurred in the south of the country but outbreaks took place in the north and central regions too.

In total, 2275 birds died and the remaining 5472 were destroyed. None of the affected flocks - mostly village poultry - had been vaccinated. Eight of the nine outbreaks included domestic ducks.

Eight of the outbreaks started in July or August and are considered to be resolved. The most recent outbreak is in Ca Mau province in the southernmost part of the country. It started on 18 September and is described as 'continuing/unresolved'.
