Print This Page Two Outbreaks of Low-Path AI Reported
GERMANY - The veterinary authorities have reported two outbreaks of low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) of the H5N3 sub-type to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).In a report dated 17 October 2008, the German veterinary authorities outline an outbreak of LPAI at Leipzig zoo in a goose and three ducks. It started on 2 October. All the birds were destroyed.
In the area of Leipzig, a farm with 106 birds was the location of the second outbreak starting one week later (on 9 October). All birds there were also destroyed. At the time of the report, the neuraminidase had yet to be identified.
