New Poultry Project in the Capital
UGANDA - State minister Saleh has launched a new project for Kampala.State minister for micro-finance, Salim Saleh, has unveiled a Government project to provide 10,000 chicks to each division in Kampala district, reports New Vision.
Organised farmers groups in Savings and Credit Co-operative (SACCO) will be given free poultry training, veterinary services and assisted to access competitive markets, the minister said.
This follows a successful pilot project in Makindye division in which over 20,000 chicks were given out to micro-finance groups under the Bonna Bagagawale programme.
On 23 October, Mr Saleh contributed over 10,000 chicks worth over 40 million shillings to Muwanguzi SACCO organisation in Kawempe Angola zone.
According to the organisation chairperson, Teo Ssekiwunga, about 300 of the 3,700 registered members are to benefit from the project.
The project is jointly implemented by the National Agricultural Advisory Services and the Microfinance Support Centre to help communities fight poverty.
