Russia and US Agree Quotas for Poultry Meat, Pork

GLOBAL - The US will supply 750,000 tons of poultry meat and 100,000 tons of pork to Russia in 2009.

Meat Russia adds that these figures represent new quotas agreed by specialists of Russia and the USA.

The report continues that the Americans point out the new quotas are 20 lower than epxected, explaining that Russian poultry production has been growing by 15-17 per cent annually in recent years. Nevertheless, American party considers this agreement favourable for American meat industry.

American Meat Institute adds that the Russian Federation is the number one export market for US poultry meat and the fourth largest market for US pork. US exports of poultry and pork to the Russian Federation reached $720 million and $191 million, respectively, in 2007.
