Print This Page Five New Cases of HPAI in India
INDIA - The veterinary authorities have sent a new report to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) about a further five cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in the northeastern state of Assam.
The report (Follow up Report no. 4) is dated 2 January 2009. It covers a further five cases of HPAI involving a total of 27,438 birds described as 'backyard poultry'. Of these, 299 birds died and the rest were destroyed.
The presence of the H5N1 virus sub-type has been confirmed.
