First Low-Path Bird Flu in Romania

ROMANIA - The veterinary authorities have sent an Immediate Notification to the the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) regarding a new outbreak of low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) in sentinel poultry.

The Romanian veterinary authority sent the Immediate Notification dated 19 February to OIE.

It reports a single outbreak of LPAI at Maliuc, Vulturu in Tulcea county in the east of the country, near the border with Moldova. The outbreak affected 17 ducks and 2 geese, introduced as sentinel birds in Danube Delta to be in contact with wildlife. All the birds were destroyed.

The presence of the H5N2 sub-type of the bird flu virus has been confirmed.
