Print This Page Low-Path Bird Flu in Japan
JAPAN - The veterinary authorities have sent an Immediate Notification to World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) about one outbreak of low-pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI).
The Japanese veterinary authority sent the Immediate Notification dated 27 February to OIE about one new case of LPAI.
The outbreak started on 18 February in Toyohashi City, Aichi prefecture on the largest island of Honshu. Ten birds in a breeding flock of 280,000 quails were affected. The whole flock was destroyed.
The virus sub-type has not yet been identified.
The last outbreak of avian flu in Japan was in January 2006.
