Eggs in Incubators on 1 March Down 12 Per Cent from Last Year
Turkey eggs in incubators on 1 March 2009, in the United States totaled 28.2 million, down 12 per cent from 1 March 2008. Eggs in incubators were down one per cent from the 1 February 2009 total of 28.5 million eggs. Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central down eight per cent, West North Central down five per cent, North and South Atlantic down 10 per cent, and South Central and West down 38 per cent.
Poults Hatched During February Down 11 Per Cent from Last Year
Turkey poults hatched during February 2009, in the United States totaled 22.9 million, down 11 per cent from February 2008. Poults hatched were down 8 per cent from January 2009 total of 24.9 million poults. Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central down 13 per cent, West North Central down 9 per cent, North and South Atlantic down 9 per cent, and South Central and West down 23 per cent.
Net Poults Placed During February Down 11 Per Cent from Last Year
The 22.2 million net poults placed during February 2009 in the United States were down 11 per cent from the number placed during the same month a year earlier. Net placements were down eight per cent from the January 2009 total of 24.1 million.
