Duck Producers in Support of Egg Imports
19 March 2009AUSTRALIA - Duck producers are keen to back Biosecurity Australia's latest proposal on importing duck eggs.
The national quarantine authority has asked stakeholders to comment on the review which, amongst other proposals, suggests the import be permitted of eggs from flocks vaccinated against duck hepatitis virus type I.
Fertile hatching eggs are needed by producers to improve the genetics of Australia's breeding stock, reports ABC.
The Australian Duck Meat Association says it's also pleased with the proposed quarantine periods for the newly-hatched ducklings, which are to be reduced from 12 weeks to 9 weeks.
The ADMA says it will be making a submission.
