Poultry Farmers Warned of Criminal Action

INDIA - Once keen on generating power from poultry birds droppings, the Panchkula administration has now decided to register criminal complaints against poultry farmers in order to control fly menace in Barwala, Raipurrani and Panchkula blocks.

The move comes in wake of the fact that several complaints against increasing number of flies in the area were made by panchayats and schools of villages falling under the poultry belt of Panchkula. Acting on the same, deputy commissioner ordered an immediate probe by sub-divisional magistrate, according to The Times of India.

Even though poultry farmers attribute wheat harvesting season as the main cause of fly menace, Panchkula administration has asserted that poultry farmers’ failure in carrying out periodic sprays and use of medicines as precautionary measure lead to increased number of flies in the area.

Earlier this week, Panchkula DC Rajinder Kataria issued instructions to SDM. “I have given three days deadline to poultry farmers and have already directed SDM to lodge criminal cases if they do not respond within three days,” Mr Kataria said.
