Feed Enzymes Raise Potential of Lupins

Commercial poultry farmers will be happy to hear a WA scientist thinks he has found a way to reduce feed costs significantly, reports ABC.

For the last 14 years, Ahmed Ali has been trying to find a replacement for expensive imported soy meal.

He is over the moon because his research shows a cheaper protein energy alternative is Australian-grown lupins but you have to add two specific enzymes to the feed.

"Yes we are excited because both enzymes improved the digestibility of lupins and reduce wet dropping and improve the growth performance," he says. "That means we are increasing the feed conversion efficiency of the feed to the meat or feed to the egg."
