Eggs in Incubators on 1 July Down Nine Per Cent from Last Year
Turkey eggs in incubators on 1 July 2009, in the United States totaled 29.8 million, down nine per cent from 1 July 2008. Eggs in incubators were up two per cent from the 1 June 2009 total of 29.2 million eggs. Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central down eight per cent, West North Central down three per cent, North and South Atlantic down 15 per cent, and South Central and West down 13 per cent.
Poults Hatched During June Down 6 Per Cent from Last Year
Turkey poults hatched during June 2009, in the United States totaled 24.6 million, down six per cent from June 2008. Poults hatched were up six per cent from May 2009 total of 23.3 million poults. Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central down three per cent, West North Central up slightly, North and South Atlantic down 12 per cent, and South Central and West down 14 per cent.
Net Poults Placed During June Down 5 Per Cent from Last Year
The 24.2 million net poults placed during June 2009 in the United States were down five per cent from the number placed during the same month a year earlier. Net placements were up five per cent from the May 2009 total of 23.0 million.
