Egg Prices Expected to Go Up

TAMIL NADU, INDIA - The price of egg, which was increased by 15 paise yesterday, is expected to go up in the coming weeks.

National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) Namakkal Zone president P. Selvaraj, in a press release said, the demand for egg in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Northern States had increased sharply.

The Hindu reports that the egg price in other markets including Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkatta had increased significantly following rise in the demand. Poultry farmers and traders in Namakkal were sending eggs to Northern States following the sharp increase in the demand.

Currently the price of an egg stands at Rs. 2.75, according to The Hindu.

The NECC also increased the price of the layer birds to Rs. 35 a kg on Saturday, the release says.
