ABC News reports that effluent discharged from Baiada's rendering plant on the Gunnedah Road, near Tamworth, does not meet trade waste concentration limits for ammonia and nitrogen.

Tamworth Mayor James Treloar says Baiada asked for leniency and the council agreed to a deferment because the company has been trying to improve its effluent.
