International Egg and Poultry Review: US Trade with Caribbean
US - By the USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS). This is a weekly report looking at international developments concerning the poultry industry. This week's report focuses on the poultry situation in the Caribbean.
Currently, the Caribbean Region ranks fourth in total United States (US) poultry exports when compared to other regions of the world by volume when using January-August comparisons. US poultry meat exports to the Caribbean have increased approximately 74 per cent since 2005, whereas total US poultry meat exports worldwide have only increased about 33 per cent. Of the US’s total poultry meat exports to the Caribbean, broiler meat exports commanded the majority followed by that of turkey meat, other poultry meat, and egg and egg products. From 2005 to 2009, US turkey meat exports to the Caribbean nearly doubled, making it the fastest growing poultry export item followed by broiler meat (76 per cent), other poultry meat (48 per cent), and egg and egg products (25 per cent). Of US poultry meat exports to the Caribbean, the most popular destination for US broiler meat was to Cuba with a majority of those exports being chicken leg quarters.
