Weekly US Broiler Hatchery Report
US - The USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) reports that, compared to the same week last year, the numbers of broiler-type eggs set and chicks placed last week were marginally down.Broiler-type eggs set in 19 selected states down slightly
Commercial hatcheries in the 19-state weekly programme set 201 million eggs in incubators during the week ending 14 November 2009. This was down slightly from the eggs set the corresponding week a year earlier.
Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 84 per cent. Average hatchability is calculated by dividing chicks hatched during the week by eggs set three weeks earlier.
Broiler chicks placed down slightly
Broiler growers in the 19-state weekly programme placed 156 million chicks for meat production during the week ending 14 November 2009. Placements were down slightly from the comparable week a year earlier.
Cumulative placements from 28 December 2008 to 14 November 2009 were 7.64 billion, down four per cent from the same period a year earlier.
