The UK Turkeys web site is designed to raise awareness of buying British, buying local and buying the best turkey you can afford and around 250 local turkey producers have signed up to appear on it this year.

As well as finding your perfect turkey, visitors to the website this year will be able to download a number of videos to accompany recipes devised especially for the NFU by Jason Palin, a chef director at The Cheshire Cookery School in Altrincham. You can also find tips on how to cook your turkey to perfection as well as ideas for making the best use of the leftovers.

Those looking for some festive fun can try out the turkey 'Gobbler' game, download a 'gobble gobble' ringtone for your mobile phone, or sing along to the '12 foods of Christmas' song. There is also a chance to win one of five farm-fresh Bronze turkeys supplied by Kelly's Turkeys.

Mike Bailey, a turkey producer and vice chairman of the NFU poultry board, said: "There's nothing better than a fresh, locally produced, great tasting turkey to grace your dinner table at Christmas. With producers listed from across the UK, it's the ideal way to order a quality turkey for the big day."

Helen Cotterill, NFU Online senior web editor, said: "The fact that there are around 250 local producers on the website this year shows how incredibly popular it is with both the public and NFU members.

"Consumers can find all sorts of cooking tips and there's plenty to appeal to all ages with the 'Gobbler' game, ringtones and our very own Christmas song. But most importantly, with so many turkey producers who are NFU members from across every region of England and Wales to choose from, you should have no problem finding one near you."
