Newcastle Disease Breaks out in Spanish Flock

SPAIN - The veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of Newcastle disease in chickens on its northern coast.
The Spanish veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification dated 27 November to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
It reports a new outbreak of Newcastle disease at a farm at Zumaia in the region of Pais Vasco, on Spain's northern coast, near to the border with France. The disease broke out on 18 November. On the farm with a total of 11,000 birds (type and age unspecified), 2,075 showed clinical symptoms and 1,700 died. The rest of the flock has been destroyed.
The presence of the paramyxovirus has been confirmed.
The last outbreak of Newcastle disease in Spain was in December 1993.
