Half-way through the month of December, the number of coryza outbreaks on Dutch poultry farms remains at 18 and the number of outbreaks of Salmonella gallinarum at 10, reports Vetsweb.

Most outbreaks were in the Gelderland Valley (central area). During the past two weeks, no new cases were added but the risk of new cases remains, said the Dutch Animal Health Service.

The report continues that currently, there is no Dutch registration for a Coryza vaccine but the veterinarian may obtain the vaccine from another EU country. The Animal Health Service has, together with veterinarians and laying hen suppliers, lobbied for the availability of a French vaccine, which should ease access to supplies.

The Dutch registered S. gallinarum vaccine is currently sold out and a new supply is not expected before March 2010. No alternative vaccines are approved in the Netherlands or the EU, according to Vetsweb. The Animal Health Services is mediating in the release of 1 million doses of vaccine from Brazil.
