James Truscott, director of Cobb Germany, told the event at a scenic holiday farm near Leipzig, about the increasing success of the Cobb 500 in central and eastern Europe.

He said: "Integrations with around two million parents in our area are housing 100 per cent Cobb, because they are convinced of the economic advantages. The ability to analyse the efficiency from the parent flocks to the final product made it easy for them to decide on the best breed."

The annual event provided a perfect opportunity to share knowledge on maximising returns on high quality meat production – an advantage for the up-to-date meat industry in Europe, added Mr Truscott.

Leopold Graf von Drechsel, general manager of Cobb Germany, added: "There will be competitive pressure for central and western Europe from eastern European countries, when chicken meat imports are permitted by the EU authorities. These professional integrations are mainly working with the Cobb 500."

Presentations by the Cobb Europe sales and technical director, Pelayo Casanovas, Patrick van Trijp, nutritionist Uwe Frackenpohl, and Leasey Butler, technical manager from the USA, provided the technical programme. Discussion on the parent stock focused on exceptionally good performance in both egg production and chick numbers.

After the conference, all participants celebrated together at the WIMEX Christmas party after having enjoyed a cabaret theatre production called 'Very British' – matching the rain at the traditional Leipzig Christmas market!
