Nova Scotia Supports Local Meat Companies

Eight Nova Scotia agri-food companies are to share in the latest round of support from the province’s Strategic Infrastructure Investment Fund, reports Country Guide.

So far, C$4.25 million has been committed from the C$6 million, four-year fund.

Among the eight businesses receiving support in the programme's third year is Cogmagun Poultry Processing Co. Ltd. of Centre Burlington. The grant will provide enhanced value-added processing opportunities for Nova Scotia's specialty poultry industry.

Northumberlamb Co-operative Ltd./Brookside Abattoir of Truro, to build Nova Scotia producers' ability to supply high-quality, provincially-inspected lamb and other meat products to existing and new markets.

Agriculture Minister, John MacDonell, said in a release last week: We are working with producers and processors to assist them as they develop their economic potential and improve competitiveness. These businesses were chosen for their strong business plans and benefits for the agri-food industry as a whole."
