Four More Outbreaks of H5N1 in Viet Nam
VIET NAM - The veterinary authority has reported four further outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The first report is Follow Up Report No. 37 dated 24 January. It describes one new outbreak of HPAI, which started on 14 January in Ha Tinh Township in Ha Tinh province, which is to the north of the central region of the country. Altogether, 578 birds were affected; 200 died and the rest were destroyed.
Follow up Report No. 38 is dated 28 January, and it describes three outbreaks of HPAI. Two of these started on 14 January and were in the northern province of Dien Bien, near to the border with Laos. The other outbreak was in Soc Trang province in the Mekong Delta area of the south of the country. In total, 1,905 birds were in the affected flocks, 1,400 showed symptoms and 1,150 died while 755 were destroyed.
The presence of the H5N1 virus subtype has been confirmed.
