Big Boost to Poultry Processing Capacity in Iran

IRAN - The country's largest poultry slaughterhouse was officially opened yesterday, 8 February.

The fourth largest industrial slaughterhouse for poultry in the world and the largest in the Middle East was inaugurated by the Iranian minister of agricultural jihad in Rey on 8 February, according to Tehran Times.

The report cites the ISNA news agency, which reported that €5.5 billion and 40 billion rials (US$40 million) were earmarked on the project. Seventy per cent of the project was financed by the private sector in which 1,000 people will be employed directly and 6,000 jobs will be created indirectly. The plant has the state-of-the-art technology and a capacity to slaughter 10,000 birds an hour.
