Weekly US Broiler Hatchery Report
US - The USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) reports that, compared to the same week last year, one per cent more broiler-type eggs were set, while one per cent fewer chicks were placed.

Broiler-type eggs set in 19 selected states up one per cent
Commercial hatcheries in the 19-state weekly programme set 205 million eggs in incubators during the week ending 13 February 2010. This was up one per cent from the eggs set the corresponding week a year earlier.
Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 83 per cent. Average hatchability is calculated by dividing chicks hatched during the week by eggs set three weeks earlier.
Broiler chicks placed down one per cent
Broiler growers in the 19-state weekly programme placed 165 million chicks for meat production during the week ending 13 February 2010. Placements were down one per cent from the comparable week a year earlier.
Cumulative placements from 3 January 2010 to 13 February 2010 were 994 million, down one per cent from the same period a year earlier.
