The largest changes in exports for 2009 were sharply higher exports of shell eggs (not including hatching eggs) and liquid/frozen egg whites. Liquid/frozen yolks were the only category to fall.
Shell egg exports grew 29 per cent, helped by higher exports to Canada, up nine per cent (from 24.7 to 27.0 million eggs); Hong Kong, up 46 per cent (16.9 to 24.7 million); the United Arab Emirates, up 74 per cent (2.7 to 4.6 million); China, up 143 per cent (1.6 to 3.8 million) and Mexico, up 551 per cent (0.5 to 3.0 million). Exports to the Bahamas rose 238 per cent (0.4 to 1.5 million) and 73 per cent to Israel (0.8 to 1.5 million).
Exports of liquid/frozen whites were sharply higher in 2009 due to increased exports to Canada. Exports to Canada vary sharply from year to year. In 2006, exports of liquid/frozen whites to Canada totalled 6,012.0 metric tons (MT), dropping to 1,788.30 MT in 2007 and bottoming at 335.8 MT in 2008, before rebounding to 6,734.7 MT in 2009.
Lower exports of liquid/frozen yolk to Japan (-35 per cent, from 7.7 MT to 4.9 MT) more than offset increases to Canada (91 per cent,0.6 to1.2 MT).
