Tyson employees contributed $120,000 and the company provided funds of $130,000. The total contribution was given today to representatives of The Salvation Army, which has been providing assistance to Haiti in the aftermath of a major earthquake that struck the island 12 January.

In addition to the financial contribution, Tyson’s Fort Worth, Texas, plant is providing 15,000 gallons of water to Haiti through the non-profit relief organization Feed the Children.

“Like others, we were shocked and saddened by the devastation experienced by the people of Haiti and wanted to do something to help,” said Donnie Smith, president and CEO of Tyson Foods.

“I’m proud of our people and our company for joining others around the world in the effort to fund continuing relief efforts there.”

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to the people of Tyson Foods for their support of our work in Haiti,” said Major Tim Williford, commander of the northwest Arkansas Salvation Army.

“Because of donations like this, we’re able to provide food, water, medicine and other aid supplies to the people affected by the earthquake.”

The Salvation Army is one of the largest social service organizations in Haiti. It operates schools, clinics, a hospital, feeding programs, children's homes and other activities through community centers across the country.
