On 3 March 2010, Mexico's Secretariat of Economy announced it will allow a total of 6,000 metric tons (MT) of Japanese beef and by-products and 8,500 MT of poultry products between 1 April 2010 and 31 March 2011. These quantities could be imported from Japan paying preferential duties as part of its Mexico-Japan commitments.

US beef and poultry products will continue to be granted unlimited duty-free access to the Mexican market under NAFTA.
