9th Avian French Research Days

FRANCE - The next Journées de la Recherche Avicole (JRA; 9th Avian French Research Days) will be held in Tours on 29 and 30 March 2011.

The meeting place between researchers and professionals of poultry science – Journées de la Recherche Avicole (JRA) – will be held on 29 to 30 March 2011 in Tours, France. This French congress is organised by ITAVI, INRA and AFSSA, with support of the French branches of the WPSA and the WVPA.

All themes of poultry science will be covered. Each session will be introduced by an overview, allowing a review of current issues in poultry industry:

  • Markets and consumption
    • Major changes in the European Union chicken and turkey trade in the last decade - Y. Tregaro (FranceAgrimer)
    • Outlook and issues for European egg industry on the eve of 2012 - P. Magdelaine (ITAVI) and V Gonnier (CNPO)
    • Main developments and driving forces of meat consumption: the specific case of poultry meat - P. Hebel (CREDOC)
  • Innovate to survive
    • Poultry acclimatisation to warmth and cold during incubation - A. Collin (INRA)
    • Innovate to improve the sustainability of poultry production systems: main results obtained within the framework of the UMT Bird:
      • Optimising the use of feed
      • Guaranteeing product quality
      • Integrating this research into a multicriteria evaluation
  • Interactions between nutrition, genetics and welfare
    What are the strategies to meet the new regulations for broiler welfare?
    • Impact of genetic factors - C. Arnould (INRA), E. Duval (INRA) and V. Michel (AFSSA)
    • Broiler breeder nutrition: some working axis - M. Panheleux (CCPA) and P. Froment (INRA)
    • Managing feed while maintaining poultry welfare - M. Magnin (BNA) and I. Bouvarel (ITAVI)
  • Pathology and prevention
    • Colibacillosis in the French poultry network - C. Schouler
    • Genomics and resistance to disease - F. Calenge (INRA)
  • Hygiene and food quality
    • Campylobacter in the French poultry network - G. Salvat (AFSSA)
    • The molecular defence systems of the egg - S. Rehault (INRA)

For this 9th edition of JRA, simultaneous translation (French into English) will be available for foreign participants in plenary sessions and the workshop 'Raw materials, feed and nutrition'.

Each overview will be followed by short communications. Workshops will be organised to allow authors to explain briefly the objectives and conclusions of their study, and to allow discussions and debates. Posters will be exposed and consulted by the participants at break time. All the overviews, communications and posters will be in the French language.

Abstracts should be submitted on JRA web site [click here] before 31 August 2010.

Authors will be informed on the result of the abstract review committee before 30 September 2010.

Full text for the accepted abstract must be received before 30 November 2010.
