US Monthly Egg Products Report - May 2010

US - Four per cent more shell eggs were broken during April 2010 than the same month a year earlier, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) in its monthly Egg Products report.

Shell eggs broken totalled 172 million dozen during April 2010, up four per cent from April a year ago, and four per cent above the 165 million broken last month.

April 2009 and April 2010 contained 22 weekdays and four Saturdays.

During calendar year 2010 through April, shell eggs broken totalled 646 million dozen, up one per cent from the comparable period in 2009. To date, cumulative total edible product from eggs broken in 2010 was 842 million pounds, up one per cent from 2009.
