The daily added, 65,000 kilos of spoiled meat was supplied to different stores by the same company last January 2010 and is believed to have been consumed by the residents.

Meanwhile, the Municipality has confirmed the owner of the company has a criminal record.

The inspection teams of Kuwait Municipality are continuing to launch inspection campaigns in various parts of the country to ensure that all foodstuffs meet the required conditions, reports Arab Times, citing Al-Anba daily.

The campaigns are being held under the direct instructions of Minister of Public Works and State Minister for Municipal Affairs Dr Fadhel Safar and the constant monitoring of Director General of Kuwait Municipality Ahmad Al-Subaih.

After inspecting storehouses, restaurants and supermarkets, the inspection teams are now working on hawkers who spread their products on roads, posing a risk to motorists and exposing foodstuffs to the scorching heat, said sources. Some of them even sell unpasteurized milk which is not safe for consumption, they added.

Inspection teams of the Capital branch of municipality launched intense campaigns against hawkers in Sulaibikhat, Doha, Shuwaikh, Kaifan and Qortuba in cooperation with the Public Relations Department of the Municipality. The campaigns were lead by Head of the Emergency Team of Capital branch Tariq Al-Qattan and resulted in the seizing of 657 watermelons, 98 containers of milk and 43 boxes of dates, all of which were unfit for human consumption.
