Poultry Farmers Call for Tax Break

06 September 2010

NEPAL - At the egg producers' annual meeting, government help was requested in the form of a tax break.

According to the Nepal Eggs Producers' Association, poultry farming contributes around four per cent to the gross domestic product of the national economy.

Himalayan Times reports that poultry products from Chitwan are supplied to all the 75 districts of the country. However, the provision to pay tax to every District Development Committee (DDC) across the country has affected its profession severely, says poultry entrepreneur of Chitwan, Til Chandra Bhattarai.

He stressed the need to scrap such unreasonable collection of tax by the DDC offices in order to promote poultry farming in the country.

Meanwhile, the Association's annual convention concluded on 4 September, with the election of a new 21-member executive committee.

Around 2.5 million eggs are produced daily from 4.2 million hens across the country, according to Himalayan Times.
