Plenty of Interest for Poultry Farmers at EuroTier 2010

GERMANY - The world comes together at the world's top event for animal production, EuroTier 2010 , which is being held at the Exhibition Grounds in Hanover from 16 to 19 November 2010. Although there will be no World Poultry Show at this event, poultry farmers will find plenty of interest in the cross-species sectors of feeding, climate control, animal health and bioenergy.

High numbers of exhibitors

The organiser, DLG (Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft – German Agricultural Society) reports excellent stand booking figures. Over 1,800 exhibitors from altogether 48 countries, including the leading manufacturers in the industry, will be presenting a full-scale programme and many innovations.

The DLG evaluates the booking results on the one hand as a distinct indication that the industry intends to use EuroTier as its international turntable for markets throughout Europe, as well as in Russia and overseas. It sees EuroTier as the forum for the industry worldwide. This is where the companies launch their innovations and meet business farmers and investors, key customers from the industry, trade and research facilities worldwide.

On the other hand, the stand booking results are also an expression of a brightening economic environment. Farmers are looking more optimistically to the future again and see development potentials for their farms, said Dr Reinhard Grandke, General Executive Manager of the DLG.

Altogether 724 exhibitors from outside Germany are taking part in EuroTier. By far the largest contingent with 134 companies comes once again from the Netherlands, followed by France with 90 companies. Other large groups of participants come from Denmark (56), China (50), Italy (50), the United Kingdom (48), Belgium (40), Spain (40) and Austria (38).

The DLG views the high international participation level of 40 per cent as a clear signal for the growing global orientation of the industry and agribusiness with its worldwide linkages. The companies want to use the EuroTier platform specifically to develop new markets.

Economic environment for Europe’s farmers has improved further

This is demonstrated by the results of the Trendmonitor Europe that the DLG has now held together with Europe’s leading agricultural market research institute, the Kleffmann Group (Lüdinghausen, Westphalia).

In this survey, conducted during the last two weeks among some 3,500 farmers in the Czech Republic, France, Germany Hungary, Poland and the United Kingdom, improvements by comparison with the survey in spring 2010 were ascertained both in the assessment of the current situation and in expected business developments.

Inclination to invest is stable in Germany, where every second farmer has investment plans. As the DLG Trendmonitor further shows, there has been a shift in investment projects by comparison with the spring survey in Germany. The core farming branches of farmyard work and field operations have moved back into focus more by comparison with the last surveys, while bioenergy is slowing down slightly.

Farmers are thus taking changes in the price/cost relations in agricultural product prices due to the capricious weather conditions prevailing this summer into account.

In France and the United Kingdom especially, the improved economic climate is leading to investment plans growing by comparison with spring 2010.

In the Czech Republic investment is focusing on animal husbandry for the first time, 45 per cent of the farmers questioned plans to invest in animal production.

By contrast, despite improved expectations of business development, the inclination of Polish and Hungarian farmers to invest can be classified as relatively reserved.

Growing farms need modern and professional concepts

The structural change in Europe’s agriculture is advancing steadily. The number of farms keeping animals is continuing to shrink, but total animal population figures are remaining roughly the same, as the farm sizes increase.

The farm managers and herd managers on these growing farms need the latest modern and professional concepts in order to develop their farms competitively. This applies for all questions of animal breeding, feeding, management and health, and increasingly also for management and logistic issues.

EuroTier 2010 with its comprehensive information programme will provide answers to all questions concerning modern animal husbandry.

"The exhibition is not simply an innovations forum for modern machinery, equipment and installations, but also an ideas and impulse forge for major forward-looking concepts in animal production. With the excellent exhibition programme and many information events contained in the technical programme, EuroTier will provide animal farmers with answers to the many questions concerning the future. The exhibition helps to develop strategies and points up prospects for the future."

Poultry husbandry – feeding, climate control, animal health and bioenergy in focus

In agreement with the international poultry industry, the next World Poultry Show at EuroTier will be held in the year 2012. That is why the number of poultry sector exhibitors at this year's EuroTier will be somewhat more moderate. Poultry farmers visiting EuroTier 2010 will find information they need above all in the cross-animal sectors of feeding, climate control, animal health and bioenergy.
