The family rears around 4,200 free-range geese, mainly for Christmas but with an increasing number for Michaelmas (29 September) and for autumnal menus at local pubs and restaurants.

But as the chairman of the British Goose Producers (BGP) for the past four years, she has also carried on the promotional zeal of the founder chairman, the late John Adlard, in championing the goose – restoring the bird to its traditional place on the festive dinner table.

Visitors to the farm walk will see how the geese fit into the Goodman Bros' mixed farm also producing free-range bronze turkeys, asparagus, pedigree long-horned beef cattle and arable crops on 600 rolling acres. Judy and Geoff Goodman and their sons, Michael and Andrew, have up to 30 employees during the peak workload with the Christmas poultry.

The visitors will be shown the geese – and a similar number of bronze turkeys and also the beef cattle – grazing paddocks that form part of the picturesque Abberley Hills in north west Worcestershire. They will visit the packhouse where the birds are prepared for sale direct to consumers as well as butchers and food halls.

The programme begins at 10:30, with the farm tour in the morning and the annual meeting of the BGP – a sector group of the British Poultry Council – in the afternoon. Walsgrove Farm, Great Witley, is situated off the B4203 Bromyard Road – look for the farm sign (postcode WR6 6JJ).
