Intended for human resource managers responsible for hiring new employees, the programme reviews the basic provisions of US immigration laws and explains each section of Form I-9. The programme is presented in a narrated slide presentation with a PowerPoint format and includes a quiz to evaluate comprehension.

Dan Risher, director of human resources and safety for Marshall Durbin Companies and chair of the Joint Industry Human Resources Council, explained: "As immigration laws receive more intense scrutiny, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement increases the focus on employers, it is essential to verify that an applicant is authorised to work in the United States. This effective training program will help employers understand and comply with federal law."

John Starkey, US Poultry & Egg Association president, said: "This industry-developed training program provides a basic level of understanding about the I-9 process and shows a good faith effort by the poultry industry to comply with the immigration laws."

Attorney Jim Wimberly, of Wimberly, Lawson, Steckel, Schneider & Stine, P.C., added: "Employers who use and follow this I-9 training program will reduce the risk of fines and criminal prosecution."

The programme was developed by the Joint Industry Human Resources Council, comprised of human resource professionals from member companies of USPoultry, the National Chicken Council and National Turkey Federation, along with attorneys from Wimberly, Lawson, Steckel, Schneider & Stine, P.C. The project was coordinated by Paul Pressley, vice president of USPoultry’s Poultry & Egg Institute.

DVD versions are available at no charge for US Poultry & Egg Association members and $200 for non-members. The DVD may be ordered on-line [click here]. For questions, contact Pressley [email protected].
