Britain has fallen back in love with the egg, according to new figures released by British Lion eggs.

The latest retail sales data shows it's no yolk, as 12 million more eggs were consumed in September than in the same month a year ago.

Overall sales have risen by more than 60 million in the last two years as consumers add eggs to their menus.

Andrew Parker, Chairman of the British Egg Industry Council, believes the sales rise is down to a number of factors. He said: "In recent years, we've seen major health and heart organisations lift their limits on egg consumption and scientists have even added eggs to the 'superfood' list. Combine this with eggs' versatility, convenience and low cost and you really do have a fantastic recipe for success."
