Monthly US Turkey Hatchery Report

US - According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), four per cent fewer turkey eggs were in incubators on 1 October 2010 than the same date in the previous year although slightly more poults were hatched in September than in the same month of 2009.

Eggs in incubators on 1 November up nine per cent from last year

Turkey eggs in incubators on 1 November 2010, in the United States totalled 28.3 million, up nine per cent from 1 November 2009. Eggs in incubators were up eight per cent from the 1 October 2010 total of 26.2 million eggs.

Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central up 19 per cent, West North Central up eight per cent, North and South Atlantic up 12 per cent, and South Central and West down eight per cent.

Poults Hatched During October Up Slightly from Last Year

Turkey poults hatched during October 2010 in the United States totalled 22.1 million, up slightly from October 2009. Poults hatched were down slightly from the September 2010 total of 22.1 million poults.

Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central up seven per cent, West North Central down two per cent, North and South Atlantic down two per cent, and South Central and West up three per cent.

Net Poults Placed During October Down Slightly from Last Year

The 21.2 million net poults placed during October 2010 in the United States were down slightly from the number placed during the same month a year earlier. Net placements were down two per cent from the September 2010 total of 21.7 million.
