USGC Work Brings First DDGS Sales to Jordan
JORDAN - As a result of US Grains Council DDGS educational efforts, Jordan’s largest dairy producer contracted for the country’s first imports of US distiller’s dried grains with solubles (DDGS), with delivery set for early 2011.

It will also be the first-ever DDGS sale into an Arabic Middle Eastern nation, an area with the potential to use up to three million metric tons of DDGS, according to Joe O’Brien, USGC regional director in the Middle East and Subcontinent.
“Jordan can absorb as much as 500,000 tons of DDGS across its livestock sectors, but what Jordan does will be closely watched by other countries like Saudi Arabia, which offers a vast opportunity for this US commodity,” Mr O’Brien said.
A series of Council efforts, including a DDGS feeding trial, a field day seminar with trial results and bringing a high-level Jordanian team to the United States in October led to the sale.
“That re-confirmed in their minds the value and cost-effectiveness of this product as well as our commitment to help their businesses succeed,” said Mr O’Brien.
The first Jordanian shipment will go primarily to dairy operations, but some DDGS will also go into poultry feeding. Dairy industries in the region are very competitive, according to Mr O’Brien, and DDGS use in Jordan will be on the radar screen for other nations.
