Three More Outbreaks of HPAI Reported in Viet Nam

VIET NAM - Three new outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) have been reported in two northern provinces.

The Vietnamese veterinary authority has sent Follow Up Report No. 45 dated 4 December to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report describes three new outbreaks of HPAI, all starting on 18 November and in village flocks. Two were in Nam Dinh and one in Nghe An. In total, 2,209 birds were affected, of which 244 showed symptoms, 172 died and the remaining 2,037 were destroyed.

The presence of the H5N1 sub-type of the HPAI A virus has been confirmed.

The last HPAI outbreak in Vet Nam was reported in August this year.
