Resistance against antibiotics is a hot topic in the European Union and in the Netherlands.

GD Animal Health Service is playing a role in these discussions about the use of antibiotics in livestock and is initiating and supporting different projects.

For example, as of January 2011, poultry veterinarians have to register the use of antibiotics on a database. GD has built this database and has started a pilot last October. In the database, veterinarians also register why an antibiotic has been used.

This is valuable information for reducing the use of antibiotics. The database also offers poultry farmers the opportunity to compare their antibiotic use with that of other farmers.
