US - According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), four per cent more turkey eggs were in incubators on 1 December 2010 than the same date in the previous year and 11 per cent more poults were hatched in November than in the same month of 2009.

Eggs in incubators on 1 December up four per cent from last year

Turkey eggs in incubators on 1 December 2010, in the United States totalled 27.8 million, up four per cent from 1 December 2009. Eggs in incubators were down two per cent from the 1 November 2010 total of 28.4 million eggs.

Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central up six per cent, West North Central up two per cent, North and South Atlantic up five per cent, and South Central and West up 12 per cent.

Poults hatched during November up 11 per cent from last year

Turkey poults hatched during November 2010 in the United States totalled 23.8 million, up 11 per cent from November 2009. Poults hatched were up eight per cent from the October 2010 total of 22.1 million poults.

Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central up 21 per cent, West North Central up eight per cent, North and South Atlantic up 14 per cent, and South Central and West down one per cent.

Net poults placed during November up 11 per cent from last year

The 23.4 million net poults placed during November 2010 in the United States were up 11 per cent from the number placed during the same month a year earlier. Net placements were up 10 per cent from the October 2010 total of 21.2 million.
