The value of Thai food exports is forecast to grow by just 2.5 per cent next year to 810 billion baht (THB), due mainly to the strength of the baht, a shortage of raw materials and higher production costs, according to The Nation of Thailand.

However, Kukrit Arepagorn, manager of the Thai Broiler Processing Exporters Association, said chicken exports were now expected to grow 12 per cent next year to THB430 billion due to the baht's appreciation. Growth this year is forecast at eight per cent. The major markets for chicken in 2011 will be the European Union and Japan.
