US - According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), compared to the same week last year, slightly more eggs were set and were placed slightly lower.

Commercial hatcheries in the 19 State weekly programme set 203 million eggs in incubators during the week ending 1 January 2011. This was up slightly from the eggs set the corresponding week a year earlier.

Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 83 per cent. Average hatchability is calculated by dividing chicks hatched during the week by eggs set three weeks earlier.
