More Newcastle Disease Outbreaks in Israel

ISRAEL - The veterinary authorities in Israel have reported three new outbreaks of Newcastle disease in egg layers, broiler-type breeders and 3-week-old broilers.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 4 yesterday, 5 January. According to the report, one outbreak took place in Hazafon, and the the other two in Hamerkaz.

A total of 139500 birds were found susceptible, out of which 41000 cases were identified. While 12100 deaths were recorded, 18000 were destroyed.

While the source of the outbreak has not been confirmed, the most likely cause has been identified as fomites (humans, vehicles, feed etc.).
