Japan Reports Four New HPAI-Positive Farms

JAPAN - Birds testing positive for the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) virus have been found on four farms, all on the western-most main island of Kyushu.

The authorities sent Follow Up report No. 7 dated 9 February to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

HPAI-positive birds were found between 30 January and 4 February on farms in the prefectures of Miyazaki and Oita. In total, 278,100 birds were affected, of which 384 tested positive and 364 died. The remaining 277,736 birds have been destroyed.

The presence of the H5N1 sub-type of the HPAI virus has been confirmed.
