Two More H5N1 Outbreaks in South Korea

SOUTH KOREA - More than 8,000 poultry have been destroyed as the result of the two latest outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in the north-west of the country.

The veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report No. 7 dated 18 February to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE)

Both HPAI outbreaks were on farms in different areas of Gyeonggi-do province. They started on 10 and 11 February. In total, 8,465 birds (mostly ducks) were involved. Of these, 13 died and the rest have been destroyed.

The presence of the H5N1 sub-type of the HPAI virus has been confirmed.

The outbreaks were reported a week ago by Yonhap.
