Hong Kong Discovers One Case of HPAI
HONG KONG - A goose carcass from an unknown source was discovered on 1 March 2011 at the shore of Sham Shek Tsuen. The carcass was badly decomposed at the time of discovery.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 4 dated 4 March (Friday).
According to the report, an intensive surveillance system is in place for all poultry farms, poultry markets, pet bird shops, park birds and wild birds in Hong Kong.
Since February 2006, the HKSAR Government has banned backyard poultry farming and daily rural patrols throughout the territory have been put in place since then; this activity has been enhanced since the occurrence of the event. No poultry farm or backyard poultry farming activities were detected within the 3-km-radius affected zones. The monitoring on local poultry farms was also enhanced and no irregularity was detected.
The HKSAR government will continue to monitor the situation including wild bird surveillance and local poultry farm monitoring.
No spread of disease was evident.
