Monthly US Turkey Hatchery Report

US - According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), four per cent fewer turkey eggs were in incubators on 1 April 2011 than the same date in the previous year and four per cent more poults were hatched in March 2011 than in the same month of 2010.

Eggs in incubators on 1 April down four per cent from last year

Turkey eggs in incubators on 1 April 2011, in the United States totalled 27.7 million, down four per cent from 1 April 2010.

Eggs in incubators were down two per cent from the 1 March 2011 total of 28.4 million eggs.

Poults hatched during March up four per cent from last year

Turkey poults hatched during March 2011 in the United States totalled 24.3 million, up four per cent from March 2010.

Poults hatched were up five per cent from the February 2011 total of 23.1 million poults.

Net poults placed during March up three per cent from last year

The 23.6 million net poults placed during March 2011 in the United States were up three per cent from the number placed during the same month a year earlier.

Net placements were up seven per cent from the February 2011 total of 22.1 million.
