Newcastle Disease Outbreak Reported in Ghana

GHANA - A single case of Newcastle disease has been reported in Greater Accra as the result of ‘mismanagement’.

The veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification dated 28 April to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report describes a single outbreak of Newcastle disease in Greater Accra on 14 April. There was an unexpected increase in mortality in birds aged seven weeks – about 95 per cent as 7,610 out of 8,160 birds died within a few days. The source of the outbreak is ascribed to mismanagement.
