Weekly US Broiler Hatchery Report02 June 2011
US - According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), compared to the same week last year, two per cent fewer broiler eggs set and one per cent more broiler chicks were placed.
Broiler-type eggs set down two per cent
Commercial hatcheries in the 19-state weekly programme set 207 million eggs in incubators during the week ending 28 May 2011. This was down two per cent from the eggs set the corresponding week a year earlier.
Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 84 per cent. Average hatchability is calculated by dividing chicks hatched during the week by eggs set three weeks earlier.
Broiler-type chicks placed up one per cent
Broiler growers in the 19-state weekly programme placed 174 million chicks for meat production during the week ending 28 May 2011. Placements were up one per cent from the comparable week a year earlier.
Cumulative placements from 2 January 2011 to 28 May 2011 were 3.59 billion, up one per cent from the same period a year earlier.
