The veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification dated 29 June to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report describes the finding on 23 June of infected birds in a 5,500-bird turkey flock in Wright County, Minnesota. It adds that it was a commercial turkey operation and that this was a routine pre-market testing of healthy birds with no clinical signs of avian influenza.

The sub-type of the LPAI virus has not yet been revealed.

The last occurrence of LPAI in the country was in May this year.
